Low Pressure



The low pressure hot water cylinder works by gravity. Normally you’ll find in your roof space a small tank known as a header tank, this is fed by a ballcock and it’s the cold water stored in the header tank that creates the height so you get water pressure.

The advantage of a low pressure system is that they are cheap, require little maintenance and are overall simple. The disadvantage is that water pressure is not as strong as a mains pressure system and it can take longer for hot water to reach the taps.

Mains Pressure

A mains hot water pressure system is what is installed in most homes these days as it give up to 6 times more pressure.

With a mains pressure hot water cylinder the hot water arrives more quickly at the tap and when showering obviously you get more pressure at the rose. The disadvantage is that you do tend to use more water.

When replacing an existing low pressure system with a new mains pressure we will need to upgrade the valves to comply with the building act and carryout relevant checks to insure your plumbing system is working well with the extra pressure.
